The Red Cross Children’s Hospital is an extraordinary hospital for children. Not only because it is a dedicated specialist children’s hospital, but because since 1956 this unique place of healing has maintained an ethos of “child first,” while perfectly balancing its drive for expertise with unwavering compassion. With 280 beds and 1000 plus dedicated staff, the Hospital celebrates the lives of thousands of children who have been healed and sent home to enjoy a normal childhood free of drips, hospital beds and pain. Managing more than 250 000 patient visits every year, it has given these children a second chance in life.

20% of all funds raised during this Kelso auction  for the Children’s Hospital Trust will support the Upgrade and Expansion of the Emergency Centre at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.

An institution like the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital – dedicated entirely to children, all children, is critically important. The Emergency Centre team understands the importance of providing care for a child and not a condition. A child is best understood in the context of their family, culture and values, and honouring this context will result in better healthcare, safety, and overall experience. It is imperative that the physical space supports this and does not contribute to the delay or disruption of care or makes it difficult for healthcare professionals to provide respectful and sensitive care.

The current unit is in dire need of an upgrade and a detailed plan has been put in place to meet the needs of the unit. Some of the critical improvements include the upgrade of the medical and trauma resuscitation areas and an increase in number of consultation and procedure rooms.
